Walton County Sheriff Office

Sheriff Joe Chapman is a life long resident of Walton County. He and wife Tammy were married in 1982 and have three sons; Jake, Josh and Jordan. Sheriff Chapman served six years in the United States Marine Corps. After being honorably discharged he enlisted in the Georgia Army National Guard. Sheriff Chapman retired as the 178th Military Police Company's First Sergeant after a 16 year career with the National Guard. During his career Sheriff Chapman completed a tour as Camp Guard Commander, Camp Delta, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Son Jake has completed two tours of duty in Iraq and son Josh completed one tour in Afghanistan.

 

Sheriff Chapman attended Truet-McConnel College and Gwinnett College earning a degree in public service. He completed the Columbus State University Command College in 2011.

 

Sheriff Chapman's law enforcement career began in 1987 with the City of Monroe Police Department. During his career he has served as an Investigator with the Walton County Juvenile Court, after transferring to the Walton County Sheriff's Office he held the position of Investigator/Sergeant in the Criminal Investigations Division. Sheriff Chapman was elected Sheriff in 2004.

Sheriff Chapman serves on multiple boards and advisory committees including; the Lt. Governor Casey Cagle Public Safety Advisory Board, the Walton/Newton County Child Advocacy Board, the Loganville Ministry Village, and the Walton Partnership Board. Sheriff Chapman also serves on the board of both local public safety academies; Georgia Piedmont College Public safety Academy and the Georgia Public Safety Training Center-Athens.
