Directions & Hours


We are located at 1411 South Madison Avenue, Monroe, behind the Walton County Sheriff’s Department. (GPS apps may be incorrect. Please use the Sheriff's Department address of 1425 South Madison Avenue, Monroe to ensure you get to our location.)  

South Madison Avenue comes off Highway 11 approximately 1.5 miles south of downtown Monroe. From Highway11, turn onto South Madison Avenue. We are the 4th drive on the right, just follow the blue signs. The animal control building is down the hill to the left just before the jail sally port.

Animal Viewing Hours 

The shelter is open for general animal viewing Monday to Friday from 1:30 to 4:30 PM. Morning meet-and-greet appointments may be available with approved adoption applications. Citizens interested in adopting an animal may also view the sheltered animals and submit an adoption application online. Closed Saturday  and Sunday.   

Adoption and Rescue Pick-up Hours

Adoptions and rescues are processed Monday through Friday during office hours.  Saturday and Sunday rescue pick-ups may be possible by pre-arranged appointment. 

Animal Drop-offs

Drop-offs of strays and owner surrenders are available Monday through Friday 7:30 to 11:30 AM, and 1:00 to 4:30 PM. Photo ID showing Walton County residence required. See animal surrenders page.  


Shelter and administrative offices are closed on county declared holidays. Upcoming county holiday closures:
