Crime Scene Investigations

The Crime Scene and Evidence Unit is responsible for processing all crime scenes that occur in Walton County, from the smallest theft to a homicide. The processing of a crime scene includes photographing, sketching, evidence collecting, and much more depending on the type of scene. The Sheriff's Office also maintains a small lab where evidence can be further processed. The Sheriff's Office lab has state certified marijuana examiners who test drugs to ensure their validity for cases going to court. The evidence unit intakes around twelve thousand pieces of evidence a year and maintains this evidence until it is no longer needed. The Crime Scene and Evidence Unit has three state certified crime scene specialists, and an evidence technician.
